Cook-For-Yourself
In addition to retail and house dining options, MIT supports students who wish to have individual control over their meals and dining schedule by equipping seven residences with kitchens on each hallway or floor. Called “cook-for-yourself” communities, these residences are: Bexley Hall, Burton Conner House, East Campus, MacGregor House, New House, Random Hall and Senior House.
Students in these cook-for-yourself communities benefit from the unique opportunities associated with shopping for and preparing their own food. MIT also hosts a weekly, on-campus produce market where students can purchase their cooking supplies. Cook-for-yourself dining offers students the opportunity to:
• Build a community around cooking
• Be responsible for meal planning, prep, and cleanup
• Set personal meal times and menus
• Control costs directly
