Supplemental Housing Requests
We understand that our general housing assignment process may not meet the needs of students with distinct housing requirements. If you have specific requirements in any of the categories listed below, we encourage you to submit a supplemental housing request form. The Housing Office reviews these requests with the appropriate MIT departments and decides how best to address them.
Disability requests
Medical requests
Personal requests
Religious requests
Transgender requests
Make a Request
- Submit a Supplemental Housing Request form, along with your supporting documentation, to the Housing Office or other office (see list below) by email, fax, mail, or hand delivery.
- The earlier you make your request, the better your chances of receiving an assignment that meets your needs.
- Even if your request is approved, we cannot guarantee you a housing assignment that meets your needs if you do not submit your supplemental request before the deadline. In such cases, we will work with you to determine how best to meet your housing requirements.
- Even if your supplemental request is approved, we cannot guarantee you a housing assignment. As with all housing, assignments are subject to availability. However, we will do our best to meet your needs.
Disability requests
- Submit a disability request if you are seeking a specific housing placement because of a physical or mental impairment.
- Send supporting documentation regarding your request to the Disability Services Office.
- The staff of the Disability Services Office and the Housing Office will review all requests jointly.
Medical requests
- Submit a medical request if you are seeking a specific housing placement because of a long-term medical need.
- Send supporting documentation regarding your request to the Housing Office. If you are sending documentation from a healthcare provider, it must be on official letterhead and contain the provider’s full contact information.
- We cannot consider your request without supporting documentation.
- MIT Medical will review all requests and make the decision to approve or deny them.
- If your request is approved, your housing assignment will be made at the discretion of MIT Medical and the Housing Office.
- Questions about making a medical request? Contact the Housing Office.
Personal requests
- Submit a personal request if you are seeking a specific housing placement because of a personal situation or circumstance.
- Send documentation supporting your request to Student Support Services.
- The Housing Office staff will review all requests jointly with Student Support Services.
Religious requests
- Submit a religious request if you are seeking a specific housing placement because of a religious requirement.
- Send documentation supporting your request to the Housing Office in the form of a letter from an appropriate authority representing your faith.
- The MIT Chaplain and the Housing Office staff will review all requests jointly.
Transgender requests
- Submit a transgender request if you are seeking a specific housing placement because of your gender identity or presentation.
- The staff of the LGBT Office and the Housing Office will review all requests jointly.
