Checking in to Your Residence

Once you’re on campus, check into your assigned residence hall at the front desk using your Mobile MIT ID barcode in the MIT Atlas mobile application (Menu>Profile>MIT ID Barcode) to receive your keys. Staff are available at residence hall front desks between 8:00 am and 12:00 am, though we strongly encourage you to arrive between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm if possible.

Move On or After your Move-In Date

If you are not approved for an early arrival by HRS, you cannot move into your room/residence hall early.

Housing staff is unable to provide access to your room/residence hall until the returning student move-in date.

All unauthorized early arrivals will be charged an early return penalty and a daily housing charge.

No exceptions will be made to this policy.

Transportation to Campus

There is no MIT shuttle service to campus from the airport. Instead, students typically utilize taxis, rideshare services, or the MBTA ("The T") public transportation system.

Construction near East Campus

As part of the Eversource Greater Cambridge Energy Project (GCEP) construction, traffic patterns around East Campus will be modified during move-in. Given the unpredictability of construction schedules, vehicles will be routed one of two ways: by navigating a loop around East Campus (Plan A) or exiting the same way you entered (Plan B). For reference, a map of each move-in plan is included below. Please follow all signage to be routed to the correct place.

To unload your vehicle:

  • Please enter Wadsworth Street from Main Street or Memorial Drive.
  • Travel down Amherst Street, and make a right on Ames Street.
  • Access East Campus by turning left between building 66 and building 64.
  • A loading zone will be set up to unload your vehicle. Please park perpendicular to accommodate multiple vehicles in the space.
  • After you have finished unloading, please follow the signs to A.) exit around the building, onto Gray Way, and make a left on Ames Street, or B.) exit the same way you entered.

Please do not block the fire lane and follow all instructions of the police details on site.
