Checking in to Your Residence

Once you’re on campus, check into your assigned residence hall at the front desk using your Mobile MIT ID barcode in the MIT Atlas mobile application (Menu>Profile>MIT ID Barcode) to receive your keys. Staff are available at residence hall front desks between 8:00 am and 12:00 am, though we strongly encourage you to arrive between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm if possible.

Move On or After your Move-In Date

If you are not approved for an early arrival by HRS, you cannot move belongings into or reside in your room or residence hall early.

Housing staff is unable to provide access to your room or residence hall until your move-in date.

All unauthorized early arrivals will be charged an early return penalty and a daily housing charge.

No exceptions will be made to this policy.

Be Aware of Low Clearance Routes!

Moving trucks are not permitted on Storrow Drive or Memorial Drive due to low bridge clearance.

Transportation to Campus

There is no MIT shuttle service to campus from the airport. Instead, students typically utilize taxis, rideshare services, or the MBTA ("The T") public transportation system.

Move-In Guest Policy

Guests are permitted in the residence halls to assist you during move-in. All visitors will be asked to sign in at the residence hall’s front desk and show a government-issued or MIT ID. You must be with your guests at all times while in the residence hall. Non-MIT overnight guests are not permitted in undergraduate residence halls and FSILGs until after classes begin.

Unloading Your Belongings

Amherst Alley can become very congested during move-in. To help traffic flow smoothly and make unloading easier for everyone, please use designated loading areas for no more than 30 minutes and do not leave vehicles unattended. Once unloading is complete, promptly move your vehicle to a designated parking area.
