Spring Extension

If you have extenuating circumstances that make moving on move-out day logistically difficult, you may request an extension. If an extension is granted, you may need to move to a different room or building due to preparations for Commencement, reunion, and summer housing.

Eligibility

If you’re living on-campus for the spring term and would experience a hardship that makes moving on move-day logistically difficult, you’re eligible for a housing extension.

 

Extensions are not guaranteed

You must plan to move out on move-out day unless you hear otherwise.

Move-out Dates

Graduating seniors

If you're a graduating senior, you don't have to complete the housing extension request process. You'll be able to remain within your existing on-campus housing assignment until the senior move-out date. Extensions beyond this date cannot be granted.

You may need to move assignments

If you require an extension, you may need to relocate to a temporary housing assignment for the remainder of your housing extension due to preparations for Commencement, reunion, and summer housing. 

Billing

You will be charged a per-day rate for each day that you remain in on-campus housing beyond 12 pm on the second day after the returning undergraduate move-out date. (e.g., if you move out at 2:00 pm, you will be charged for one additional day). All charges will be posted to your MITPay student account.

HRS will receive the confirmed names of students volunteering to assist with annual Commencement exercises and these students will not be charged for their extended stay. Rates are set according to building tier and room type.
